Eagles Win Gives Them the AAC Championship!
Barbourville, KY - The Eagles have been lighting up the scoreboard this season and it did not stop in today's game versus Union. With the win today, the Eagles are crowned AAC Champs and will see where their next destination lies when the NAIA Playoffs are announced on Sunday evening.
The running game was the show today as the Eagles would have six touchdowns all by rushing. Devyn Collins kept his tremendous season going by scoring four of the six touchdowns. Joe Brunson and Bryce Burgess would have the other two scores. Collins put up incredible numbers in today's game rushing for 214 total yards on 22 carries. His long run of the game was a 61-yard run which he scored in the third quarter.
The defense of the Eagles is nothing to mess with and is a huge reason they are in the position they are in as conference champions. The Eagles held the Union Bulldogs scoreless in the game by linebacker Kenneth Lowery and defensive end Orlando Gandy Jr. The Bulldogs were held to just 163 total yards on offense and had the ball taken away from them once on an interception by Jalen Everett.
Hunter Arters did not have a huge day statistically because he didn't need to with Collins running the ball 22 times and picking up 214 yards. Arters has shown that he can throw and move the ball with some of the best teams in the NAIA like Bethel University (TN), but he is a game manager and today's game only required him to give the ball to Collins and let him do the work. Arters was 7-12 for 47 total passing yards. Jakari Clark was on the end of three of those passes 3 times for 27 total yards.
The Eagles did the job that they needed to do today. They took care of business and now it will be time to get ready for the first round of the NAIA playoffs which will be next Saturday. Who their opponent will be and where they will play is being decided between now and Sunday late afternoon when the official playoffs are announced. The NAIA Football Selection Show will be on the NAIA's YouTube Channel around 6 pm on Sunday evening. The link to the NAIA site is below.
