Eagles Finish The Drill Over CIU; Keep Postseason Alive!
Waleska, GA - In the final week of the regular season games for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), Reinhardt Men's Soccer was able to keep its postseason invitation open with a 6-1 win over CIU.
The original start of the game with CIU was all the way back on the 24th of September, when the game was suspended in the second half with only twenty-two minutes left in the game. Treinhardt was leading 3-1 at that point when the lightning storm came rolling into Waleska. It was decided at that point that the final portion of the game would be made up on October 22nd.
CIU made the trip back to Waleska for the final minutes of the game, which was expected to be a defensive battle on the side of Reinhardt. As the final part of the game started, Reinhardt was able to score a quick goal on a nicely placed ball by sophomore midfielder Luke McLaren. The goal seemed to be a shocker to both teams, and you could see the Rams deflate some after the goal. McLaren's goal was assisted by fellow sophomore Evan DeYou.
Moments later, striker Biel Farre was able to receive a pass that got back to the thin backline of the Rams. He had about a five-yard advantage on the backline, and he was able to fake the keeper to put a slow roller in the back of the net for the fifth goal of the game.
This seemed to wrap up the game early, even though there were still about twelve minutes left in the game. CIU made some attempts to get things going on the offensive end, but it never could happen past the strong backline of the Eagles, led by center back Connor O'Brien and Cristian Gonzalez. Reinhardt was able to put one more across the goal in the final minutes, leaving no doubt on the outcome of the game. A pass in the box from McLaren to Farre would make the final score, 6-1. It was Farre's second goal of the game.
In the original portion of the game, Dylan Griggs, John Simmons, and Connor O'Brien all scored for the Eagles, giving them a large advantage going into Wednesday's resumed game.
The win puts the Eagles in the final spots of the AAC Tournament, but there are still games to be played this week around the conference. Eight teams will advance to the AAC Tournament, and the Eagles are currently ranked #7. The tournament bracket will be released after the final games are played this Saturday. The Eagles will find out where they will be going after those games.
