RU Keeps Piling Up Victories at Home
Team Stats
Game 1
Montreat
Game 2
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – A three-day, six-game homestand is now in the books for the eighth-ranked Eagles, as the hometown team continued its winning ways en route to a doubleheader sweep of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Montreat (N.C.), 10-0 (5 innings) and 3-2.
The comfortable confines of Ken White Softball Field have been very kind to Reinhardt in 2021, as it has now posted an 18-2 mark at home, with 12-consecutive victories, and a 22-4 overall record.
"Reagen and Whitney continue to throw great," head coach Jade Geuther said. "We were good offensively in game one, shut down a little in game two, so we need to find consistency throughout our lineup.
"Emily's home run was obviously huge, and as I always say, in the end – all that matters is we got two more wins."
Game 1, W (10-0) (5 innings))
- The Eagles got off to a hot start thanks to three RBI-singles that accounted for a foursome of tallies in the bottom of the first.
- A triple from Alise Hooks brought in another run, and then an error by the Cavaliers set them back by a half-dozen after just two frames.
- Reinhardt scored in the third and fourth innings as well, as an RBI-triple (Lauren Parker), RBI-single (Emma Adams) and a 2-RBI single (Kalyn Jinks) put the hometown team up, 10-0, after just four stanzas.
- Reagen Radke was dominant once again, this time in just five innings, as she got the win and collected 10 more Ks.
Game 2, W (3-2)
- The scoring wasn't as high in game two for Reinhardt as it was held to just three tallies – on one swing of the bat from Emily Loveless – as the hosts held on in the end to the one-run triumph.
- Whitney Shepherd got the ball in the second outing and only surrendered six hits, however, things got interesting in the top of the sixth. An RBI-groundout got Montreat on the board in the top of the sixth, and the visitors would be back for more in the seventh.
- A walk and an RBI-double in the top of the seventh set up the Cavaliers for a chance to tie the score at 3-3, but Shepherd was able to force back-to-back grounders to shortstop to end the threat.
- Shepherd finished with three strikeouts and just the two earned runs.
- Emma Adams was 2-for-3 as the Eagles gathered only five hits in the win.
It's back to the road on Tuesday as conference play continues at Tennessee Wesleyan.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
