Cleveland, GA - Two road games and two wins over the past three days for the Eagles! The regular season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Eagles and their fans, but a lot of the ups and downs have been circumstances out of their control. On Monday afternoon, the Eagles would travel to Truett-McConnell for a road make-up game from earlier in the season and they made the most of this late-season matchup with a big win, 82-49!
You have to go back to late November when these two first met and the Eagles won that with about a twenty-point margin, but with the events that unfold throughout a season - you cannot assume anything and the game has to be played out on the court. Coach Wagoner and his crew made sure that this one was going to be one in favor of the Eagles.
Brylee Puckett and Tarrah Gibson would get the scoring started for the Eagles on a short jump shot and a layup, however, Truett would actually hold the first lead of the game at 5-4. This would be the last time that they led the entire game as Reinhardt pushed the gas and got things running. Symone Williams nailed a three followed by Catherine Shope's layup and the lead for Truett switched hands to Reinhardt, 13-5. It was a devastating run by the Eagles and everyone was getting into the scoring act. Julia Craft and Brooke Grinstead hit two back-to-back three-pointers extending the lead to 21-7.
Torie Williams would hit a three-pointer to start the second quarter pushing the lead to 24-8. It was playing out that this was going to be a big night scoring for the Eagles. Reinhardt would never look back after taking the lead in the first few minutes of the game. The lead would hit the twenty-point mark at 35-15 with two minutes left in the half and the Eagles would take a commanding 45 to 20 lead at halftime.
The second half would see the lead get to thirty points and the outcome was obvious. The Eagles were having a field-day scoring and they were leaving no doubt that they are one of the upper-level teams in the AAC. Reinhardt would hit the 80 point mark in this game as everyone contributed to the scoring. The game ended with the dominating score of 82-49.
Tarrah Gibson would lead the Eagles in scoring at 15 points followed by Catherine Shope with 14 and Brylee Puckett with 11. Abi Haynes had her usual solid game scoring 7 points, pulling down 9 rebounds, and dishing out 8 assists. She was just a few stats off from having a triple-double. Brooke Grinstead added 9 points and Ashley Woodroffe had 7.
It was a big win for the Eagles, but they have to put this behind them as they end the season with two home games. The first is on Wednesday afternoon versus Brenau (another make-up game) and then the regular-season finale on Saturday with St. Andrews. Saturday will be a big day for Reinhardt as it is Senior Day for both the Men's and Women's basketball programs. There are many talented seniors on both squads so come out and help honor these young men and women who have dedicated themselves to Reinhardt over the past few years.
