MOBILE, Ala. – Three goals in the first half by No. 23 Mobile (Ala.) proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome against the Rams on the road in a 4-1 defeat inside The Jungle in Alabama.
The hosts took the lead with a goal at 8:23, and were able to keep Reinhardt off the scoreboard the entire first half while adding to their advantage with scores in the 24th and 37th minute of action. The visiting Eagles would find themselves in a 4-0 hole after another goal at 65:12, but Summer Montgomery would find the back of the net just 12 seconds later to get the visitors on the scoresheet.
"We learned a lot today going against a Top 25 team from Mobile," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "In parts of the game we showed our potential to get to that level – and in other parts of the game – we showed a lack of experience. With some hard work over the next few weeks, I expect us to become a very good team."
Reinhardt (1-1) had some trouble getting chances to score on this afternoon, as the team was outshot, 19-4 on the offensive end. On defense, Caroline Johnson gets the loss after surrendering four goals and making two saves in 90 minutes.
The University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) is next in line on the schedule on Aug. 31 in a 7 p.m. kick.
