Baseball Sweeps Taylor (Ind.) After 6-4 Outing on Saturday
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
EMERSON, Ga. – Reinhardt baseball is back over .500 for the first time since the home opener of the year after coming from behind and earning a sweep over Taylor (Ind.), 6-4, Saturday afternoon at LakePoint.
"Very proud of our team tonight, and we found a way to battle all weekend against some really outstanding arms," head coach Jonathan Burton said. "Those are some of the best pitchers we have seen all season over a three-game stretch. We certainly have a lot to work to do, but it's always good to go back to work after winning three games. We had some young guys do some really good things this weekend; that's only going to help us down the road this season."
The Eagles (4-3) brought the brooms for the initial time in 2021 after they overcame a three-run deficit after a pair of strong innings from the Trojans – beginning with a 2-run double in the first and another run-scoring double in the bottom of the second.
Reinhardt continued to plug away, however, until a four-spot in the bottom of the fifth gave the hosts a 4-3 advantage. Highlights in that frame included an RBI-single from Dayton Romig, a hit-by-pitch RBI from Andres Ugarte and a pair of additional tallies with bases full.
The scoreboard would get knotted up at 4-4 in the top of the seventh on an RBI-groundout, but the tie wouldn't last long, as the Eagles jumped right back in front in the bottom portion of the frame thanks to an error and an RBI-single from Dalton Turnbow.
That would be all she wrote for Taylor as the duo of Doss Arnold and Parker Miller (save) faced the minimum and closed the door on the Trojans.
Kevin Ross got the win in relief after two innings of work.
Reinhardt was victorious despite only five hits, and Romig was 2-for-4.
The club comes back to Ken White Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon for another non-conference doubleheader – this time against the Tornadoes of Talladega (Ala.) – beginning at 2 p.m.
