Dolensky Tames Tigers in Friday Shutout
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – Dominant pitching by Daniel Dolensky (10 Ks) and a solo blast in the bottom of the second frame by Albert Mora was a recipe for success for Reinhardt against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), 1-0, Friday afternoon inside Ken White Baseball Field.
The 17th-ranked Eagles improved to 5-3 after Dolensky went eight innings, allowing just three hits, and was in complete command of the contest from the mound.
"Very proud of Daniel, and this performance was long overdue for him personally and us as a team," head coach Jonathan Burton said. "We certainly need him, so this was a big step today. There were some better at-bats today from our guys so hopefully we are getting closer as an offense.
"We have a good team, but our guys just need to believe it more."
Each club managed just a trio of knocks in the fast-paced outing, as both pitchers were comfortable hitting their spots all evening. Dolensky didn't walk anyone – helping keep his pace of play – and handed the ball to Alex Watkins in the ninth for a save.
Watkins would face the minimum and end the clash on a strikeout.
For the hometown squad, Mora was joined in the hit category by Nick Sanders and Xavier Arnette.
The Eagles also had three stolen bases in the victory.
More baseball action comes tomorrow – a split doubleheader – as Reinhardt takes on Olivet Nazarene at 2 p.m. before lining up against Rio Grande (Ohio) around 5 p.m.
