WALESKA, Ga. – Baseball got back home on Monday afternoon and took a doubleheader sweep from the Knights of Kentucky Christian, 13-1 and 9-2, to improve to 26-10 overall and 13-7 within the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
In game one, the No. 16 Eagles scored early and often – earning tallies in six of the eight frames – including three innings of three runs or-more.
The hometown team collected just seven hits in the opener, but had runners on the bases all day thanks to 11 walks. Those Eagles were flying on the diamond with five stolen bases in the victory, three of which came from Jacob Profit (who went 2-for-3).
Jarrett Burney also had two hits (2-for-4) and scored twice. Gianmarco Marcelletti had a club-best four RBIs, including a walk-off 3-run blast in the bottom of the eighth.
Kevin Ross was victorious on the mound with six innings of work and four strikeouts.
Profit paced the running attack again in outing two, as he had three more stolen bags out of Reinhardt's eight total. Marcelletti had two as well.
Kentucky Christian continued to struggle on the rubber, as it surrendered runs in four innings in the nightcap.
Devin Symlar was out-front with a 2-for-3 performance and a run scored. Marcelletti hit another homer – a 2-run shot in the fourth – and another highlight was Ben Lepik's 2-RBI single to right in the fifth; a frame that was started by a scorcher over the fence by Dalton Turnbow.
Bryce Hill was the winning pitcher as he struck out four but walked six in five innings on the mound.
A quick trip to No. 11 Middle Georgia State takes place tomorrow at 4 p.m. in a non-conference single game.
