WALESKA, Ga. – Though they had 18 hits on the day to conference-foe Milligan's (Tenn.) 19, the 17th-ranked Eagles fell short in both games Friday evening, 7-5 and 4-1, on Senior Day.
The two losses dropped Reinhardt to 29-16 on the year with a 15-11 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) record.
"Very difficult day for our team," head coach Jonathan Burton said. "Just when you think you are coming out of a rut, you are right back in one. Mostly, I am disappointed for our seniors not being able to finish out with a win on our field.
"I really wish I had the answers, but I don't. The only thing I know to do is keep fighting and hopefully some things will start to turn."
Game 1 (L, 7-5)
· Two different Eagles took the mound in game one of the doubleheader – Ethan Foley (L) (7.1 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 4 Ks) and Chandler Gant (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K).
· The scoring didn't get started until the fourth inning when Milligan put up three hits and two runs.
· The Eagles responded in their turn in the fourth after a Gianmarco Marcelletti and Andres Ugarte each doubled followed by an Albert Mora single; resulting in two runs and a tie score.
· The visitors then put up one run in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth to give them a 5-2 lead.
· In the bottom of the seventh, Reinhardt narrowed the Milligan lead after Mora hit his eighth home run of the year and brought his team within two tallies.
· The visitors kept it rolling in the top of the eighth inning with a 2-run homer for a 7-3 lead.
· The Eagles were able to get one more run in each of the eighth and the ninth innings, but it wasn't enough, as they left three runners on base in the two innings and fell short, 7-5.
· Mora was a bright spot in the loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a blast.
· Lead-off batter Devin Symlar also had a nice outing with two hits and one run scored.
Game 2 (L, 4-1)
· Four different pitchers had outings in game two for the Eagles – Parker Miller (L) (3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 Ks), Nate Richardson (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K), Bryce Hill (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 Ks) and Alex Watkins (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 Ks).
· By the time it got to the bottom of the sixth when Reinhardt secured its first run (Gianmarco Marcelletti) via a sacrifice fly from Andres Ugarte, Milligan had already put up four runs.
· The Eagles left runners on base in five of the seven innings (six total) and it cost them in the end as they fell short by three, 4-1.
· Jacob Profit and Kevin Jimenez each went 2-for-3 in game two.
The final regular-season series of the year will begin Thursday on the road at 6 p.m. against Truett McConnell (Ga.).
