Waleska, GA - After a long weekend of top-notch baseball, the Eagles were back at for a one-game matchup with Tennessee Southern. Tennessee Southern was coming into this game winless on the early season so this is one that Reinhardt would want to pick up. Jaily Paredes would get the starting job on the mound for the Eagles and Shayne Campbell would be catching for him and leading off.
Paredes would have a slow start as the Firehawks of Tennessee Southern would get 3 runs in the top of the first inning, however, one run was unearned from a bobbled infield hit early in the inning. A couple of more batters were able to reach on Paredes, but he would settle down after the first and pitch two scoreless innings in the second and third. He was relieved in the top of the fourth by Andrew Herbert. Paredes would have 3 strikeouts and give up 6 hits in his three innings of work.
After the Eagles gave up the three runs in the first, they were able to get two back in the bottom of the first. Tucker Zdunich would get a single to right field which scored Patrick Baggett and Dawson Johns would score on a fielder's choice hit by Jarrett Burney.
Reinhardt would have another big inning in the bottom of the third where they picked up 4 runs. Patrick Baggett would hit a double over the center fielder's head which scored pinch-runner, Dayton Romig, who was on first running for Shayne Campbell. Baggett was able to score on the play as well. Later in the inning, Albert Mora singled knocking in Tucker Zdunich and Dawson Johns. This would be the top producing inning for the Eagles and put them in the lead 6-3.
The Eagles would have one-run scoring innings over the fourth, fifth, and sixth and then have another breakout inning in the seventh. Patrick Baggett would get the run in the fourth advancing on a passed ball, Albert Mora hit a home run in the fifth, and Lance Dockery homered in the sixth making the lead 9-6 after six.
In the bottom of the seventh, Tucker Zdunich would hit a triple and then scored on a passed ball. Will Underwood and Jarrett Burney would later score in the inning after more throwing issues from Tennessee Southern. The Eagles added one more run in the eighth inning pushing their lead to 13-6 over the Firehawks and this is how the game would end.
Patrick Baggett would lead the Eagles in hitting going 4 for 5 and scoring 3 runs. Dawson Johns would go 2 for 4, and Tucker Zdunich and Albert Mora would both go 2 for 3 hitting. It was a great night hitting for the Eagles and they took advantage of mistakes when given to them.
The Eagles had a decent night pitching after settling down once entering the game. A combination of Paredes, Herbert, AJ Jarrell, Will Casel, and Daniel Lee pitched for Reinhardt and they had a total of 12 strikeouts and 9 hits.
Coach Burton had this to say about the game tonight, "Probably the best thing for our team tonight was to fall behind early, as that forced us to lock in and play better baseball. We need to start these mid-week games better - especially at home. No more excuses for it being early as we are ten games in and some of these repetitive mistakes need to stop before it becomes a bigger problem."
The Eagles will be back in action this Friday (4 pm) and Saturday (1 pm/4 pm) with Spring Arbor at Ken White Field. Saturday will be a double-header to wrap up the weekend series.
