Waleska, GA - The Eagles had a week of reschedules trying to work around the weather, but that is just how it goes in early spring in the south. For the weekend series which was supposed to be played on Friday/Saturday, Reinhardt welcomed in AAC opponent, St. Andrews. The series was moved to Sunday/Monday to take advantage of the clear weather that was in the forecast. Although the day started out cold, it would end up being a really nice day for baseball.
Pablo Barquero would get the starting job for the Eagles in game one. Barquero has had a tremendous season pitching for Reinhardt and always gets the job done on the mound. He would get in seven innings in this game, but he did run into a little trouble in the top of the second inning where the Eagles had 4 runs scored against them, however, he settled down after this and had a really good game. Carson Bennink would come in at the top of the eighth to relieve Barquero. Barquero would end up with 3 strikeouts over the seven innings and give up 5 runs, but he turned around his play after the second inning where most of the damage against the Eagles was done. Bennink would end up with 2 strikeouts over his two innings of work and closed out the win for the Eagles.
Jacob Profit, who was playing on his birthday, would be the highlight for the Eagles as he hit a Grand Slam Home Run in the bottom of the seventh and sealed the deal for an Eagle victory. Profit would go 2 for 5 on the day, score 3 runs, and had 4 RBIs. Profit had probably his best game for the Eagles and just happened to be on his birthday. The Eagles would score a whopping nine runs in the bottom of the seventh, which pulled from being two runs down and ending with a 12-5 lead. Almost everyone contributed in some way in the seventh inning come back. The Eagles were able to bat through the line-up and there was everything from sac flies to hit batters to the Grand Slam homer that really opened things up.
Reinhardt would add two more in the bottom of the ninth when Alex Coulter hit a deep shot to center field which brought in Cedric Cullars and Lance Dockery. Coulter would end up on third base on the play. The runs were just added insurance to the big bottom of the seventh inning runs.
Jarrett Burney would pinch-hit in the bottom of the seventh to get involved with the huge comeback by the Eagles. Burney would go 2 for 3 in the game and score 2 runs. Patrick Baggett would have a good day getting on the bases hitting 2 for 4 and scored a run.
The Eagles will face off with the Knights on Monday at noon for a doubleheader. The second game will happen approximately thirty minutes after the first game of the series ends.
