Eagles Get the Bats Cooking on the Road at Bluefield
Bluefield, VA - The Eagles were able to get the second AAC sweep in a row by literally obliterating the scoreboard. The Eagles scored 42 runs in 22 innings over the three games with Bluefield. Game one of the doubleheader was the largest run total with the score ending up 20 to 6 in the seven inning shortened game. Game two of the doubleheader was another large run producer, but the lowest of the series with the final score of 8 to 1.
Game One of DH:
Jordan Hampton would get the start in the first game of the doubleheader and he was able to get three strikeouts over his 4.1 innings before being relieved by Will Casel. Hampton would give up five runs while he was on the mound, but they were spread out over the four innings and the offense did plenty to make those runs not matter to get the win. It is something that Hampton will need to get under control going forward, but the offense is producing very well right now and giving the pitchers plenty of cushion.
Casel came in for the final 2.2 innings of the point-shortened game and he had a good outing. He was able to strike out three batters and only allowed one run to help the Eagles. The Rams were able to get three hits on him but he kept them from getting across the plate.
Offensively, the team could not have done much better by scoring twenty runs. Five Eagles hit home runs in the game including Tucker Zdunich for his third game in a row with a home run. Joining Zdunich was Nash Crowell, Jarrett Burney, Dylan Lewis, and Shayne Campbell.
The Eagles scored in all but two of the seven innings played with the fourth and seventh being the largest run totals in the twenty-run scorcher. They scored six runs in the fourth and eight runs in the seventh.
Crowell's homer happened in the first inning, and Zdunich and Lewis' home run happened in the fourth. Burney and Campbell both homered in the seventh and it was all the Rams could handle in game one.
Game Two of DH:
Andrew Herbert would get the start of game two of the doubleheader and he would continue to keep producing for the Eagles. He pitched the complete game - seven innings - which allows the staff to rest the arms in the bullpen. Herbert pitched great only allowing the single run and he struck out eight Ram's batters. Herbert extends his record to 6-1 overall pitching with a 2.93 era.
The bats cooled off a little from the previous two games with Bluefield, however, they still were able to get eight runs. Nash Crowell stepped up again for the single long ball of the game, which happened in the fifth inning, and scored Lance Dockery. Dockery led the Eagles at the plate going 3 for 4 in the game and scored two runs. Alex Coulter was 2 for 3 as well. Tucker Zdunich did not get a home run to make it four straight games, but he did get a double which scored Jacob Profit for the first run of the game.
