Red Wolves' Hot Shooting Burns Reinhardt
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Men's basketball dropped the final game of the Show at MeadowView against the high-powered Red Wolves, 112-92, as IU-East (Ind.), who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25, outscored the Eagles by 10 points in each half to claim the positive outcome in Tennessee.
Reinhardt (4-1) dropped its first game of the year.
"Tough loss as I thought the guys competed the whole game," lead Eagle Justin Newton said. "We weren't very disciplined defensively tonight. Got to give credit to IU-East for an outstanding shooting performance; we will grow from this.
"We have to heal up quick and turn our attention to conference play this week. I'm still very encouraged with our group and we will be fine moving forward."
All five starters for the hometown team hit double-digit scoring on Sunday and were guided by DJ Lampkin's 18 and Kristian Collins' 17. That duo helped the Eagles fight to the last buzzer, but the Red Wolves were too strong all afternoon from the floor – 39-for-65 (60 percent) and 19 treys in 33 attempts.
It wasn't enough to come out on top, but not to be outdone offensively for Reinhardt was Josh Press (12), Moses Jones (11) and 10 from Jalin Wimberly.
Wimberly also added seven rebounds and seven assists.
Off the bench, Josh Daniels chipped in with eight tallies, while Kody Eden scored seven.
Reinhardt connected on 33-of-73 (45.2 percent) and hit 12 shots from deep as well.
It's back to AAC action on Tuesday with the conference road opener at Tennessee Wesleyan.
Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
