Tough Loss Ends Reinhardt Post Season
By Erinn Marroquin
WALEKSA, GA.- The Eagles had an opportunity to become the top seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament play with the top two seeded teams, Milligan and CIU, falling in the first round. They sadly followed suit and lost to the 6th seeded Skyhawks of Point University (GA.) 0-1.
After a delay of game, a wide shot from the visitors at 3:57 hit the left post and ricocheted into the back of the net, putting Point on the scoreboard. Although the final score does not show it, the Reinhardt squad kept possession the majority of the match. The Eagles outstatted the Skyhawks with 23 shots to the latter's 6, with the hometown team having 12 shots on goal to their opponent's 2. Although they dominated in the book, Reinhardt could not capitalize on the opportunities they created.
Both teams were fighting to survive until the next round with 12 and 16 fouls apiece, making it a physical match for the spectators.
Notably, Phillip Frowis played with a sense of urgency and made several crosses that were not successfully executed by the rest of the team. Reinhardt maintained pressure on Point with 5 corner kicks and 6 headers. This strong offensive effort was not enough for the Eagles in the end as this completed their 2021-2022 season.
