Eagles Fall Short in Second Half Comeback
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Men's Soccer went into their game against Life University with something to prove after conceding eight goals in their last two games and only scoring two. Still, they were up against a talented Life University and with three out of their four starting defenders out with injuries, including Ivan Patta, team captain, it was always going to be an uphill battle.
The first chance of the game would come three minutes into the game from a freekick for Life University on the edge of the 18, but Allan Tercjak would see it all the way out to a corner. The second chance wouldn't come for another 10 minutes from outside of the box, but Allan would save it once again. Reinhardt finally got their chance after some beautiful tiki-taka between Weyman Mabuya, Luke McClaren, and Alex Itov around the Life University midfield, Weyman Mabuya would break free and launch a thunderstrike which George Edgely stretched all the way to make a goal. The rest of the half was a clash of two gladiators, swinging their blades, but for every strike there was a parry. Each kept an eye for the opening that could create the first blood. Weyman Mabuya would continue to be Reinhardts most dangerous player as he would attempt to curl a chance in from 30 yards out, narrowly missing the frame. But, Life would find the back of the net first with a chance from 6 yards out, just sliding by Allan Tercjak.
The second half looked to be a continuation of the wonderful first half with the ball moving dynamically from side to side, but Life would be quick to capitalize with a run down the right flank and a composed finish. Life- two, Reinhardt- zero.
The Eagles refused to back down and with 17 minutes left on the clock a run from Eber Sosa was tackled straight into the path of Evan Deyou who was able to blast the rebound into the open net. There was still hope. The goal brought Reinhardt back to life as they would go on to get chance after chance with a freekick from Jaiden Sosa almost going in from 40 yards out, and Christain Gonzalez almost using that magical left foot to knock one in from outside the box, but the keeper tipped it over. Reinhardt was the better team for the second half, but the chance wouldn't fall, and Life would take the win.
Even with the loss, this was the best Reinhardt has looked in a couple weeks and they will look to build off of that for their next match.
