Waleska, GA - The Eagles Men's Volleyball were playing their third match in four days on Monday night where they would face Carolina University. The Eagles were coming off the win on Friday and the narrow 3-2 defeat from Saturday. Coach Goodhind has the group playing very well right now as they take each opponent one at a time and grow from each game.
Tonight's game was one in which the Eagles would dominate sets one and three, but the middle set turned out to be one where the Eagles would need to come back and hold off the Bruins of Carolina University. In tight, competitive matches, just getting down a point or two can create a difficult road to get back even. The Eagles had to do just that in the second set as they would go down several points to start, but they were able to turn it on and tie the game at 14. Reinhardt was not able to really pull away as it would take a few extra points to get the win. In determined fashion, the Eagles fought through being down, gained the lead and pulled out a 26-24 win. They did this while giving experience to players that usually do not get a lot of time on the floor.
The third set would see the Eagles go back to setting each other up and throwing down kills to put the Bruins away early. All of "Club Eagle" got in on this one as Reinhardt would win big 25-13. It was good to see all the guys get some experience on the floor. It is hard to match the enthusiasm and team spirit of this group as they support and cheer on each other through the ups and downs of each match.
Coach Goodhind had this to say about the game, "Tonight was a matchup versus two new programs. Carolina is in year two and we are in year three. Coach Ferguson is a very good coach, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. They have improved so much from year one already. On our side, I thought our team did a great job tonight. We wanted to focus more on our offensive side tonight and I thought Bruno flowed the offensive very well tonight. We were able to go deep in our bench tonight and I thought it was a great team win! I also want to thank the players from other teams who came to support us tonight! It means a lot when we are able to feel that Eagle support! They can count on us being there for the game tomorrow night! I want to thank God for the opportunity I'm blessed with to Coach and give Him all the Honor and Glory!
Chase Cross and Bruno Dewes would lead the way for the Eagles. Cross would have 8 kills on 1 error with a .412 hitting percentage. He also had one ace and 4 digs. Dewes would have 32 assists setting up all his guys for the kills. Dewes also had 3 digs and 2 kills. Matthew Corrales had 6 kills with a .455 hitting percentage. Rayner Sarmiento, Noah Waite, and Christian Deleon would each have 3 kills each. Sarmiento added 4 aces and 3 digs as well. Newly named MidSouth Defensive Player of the Week, Ricardo Mujica, would lead the Eagles with 8 digs.
Reinhardt Volleyball has a big weekend of matches coming up this Friday and Saturday. Six MidSouth teams will be visiting The Brown Athletic Center for Pod #1 on the season. The Eagles play two on Friday (2 pm & 6 pm) and one on Saturday morning (10 am). Come out and support the Eagles as they make some noise in the MidSouth!
