Waleska, GA - The Eagles were coming off a tough road loss last Thursday so they were looking to rebound and get back to their winning ways. They have really had an impressive start to the season and they are proving to be a tough competitor to more established programs. A part of proving yourself to be among the top is to take care of the teams that you are supposed to beat. On Monday evening, the Eagles took care of business and won in three straight sets.
The first two sets, the Eagles would control from start to finish as Ian Robinson and Bruno Dewes had incredible games setting teammates up for kills. Dalton Fellows and Rayner Sarmiento had several kills in the first set and Reinhardt would have a commanding 25-7 win.
In the second set, Chase Cross would have service aces and kills showing his versatility and all-around great skills. He would end up with 4 aces and 5 kills on the night with a .625 hitting percentage. Rayner Sarmiento would have 6 kills with a .357 hitting percentage as he would have great performances in the first two sets. Ricardo Mujica would have an incredible 17 digs over the three sets to help the Eagles control the matches.
The second set would stay close for the first half with the lead extending to as much as five points, however, the set was tied at twelve all before the Eagles would take control once more. The final was 25-15, but the set was much closer to the start, and then the Eagles took control of the set.
Reinhardt would take a 2-0 set lead into the third and this set would see a totally new group appear. The Eagles would lead a majority of the way except for being tied at 11 and then again at 15 all. The Eagles would slowly extend the lead over the final ten points of the set. Chase Cross was active again in this one just as he was in the first. Victor Pacheco, John Hynes, and Troy Sly would step up their games in this last set to get the much-needed kills and leave Cleveland, GA with a good conference win. John Hynes had an outstanding game with 5 kills and a .714 hitting percentage. Coach Goodhind was excited about the win and had this to say about the match, "Went 1-0, great team effort tonight and it was great to go deep into the bench. Proud of WBB for winning round 1 tonight! To God Goes All The Glory!"
There is no time to rest for the Eagles Volleyball team as they will be back in action Wednesday afternoon with rival, Life University in Marietta, GA. After this, they will be on the road again Friday when they visit Carolina University. This was another match where the Eagles were able to show their dominance. Look for this team to keep building on the experiences they face this season as the midway point of the season approaches.
