LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Eagles hit the road for the first time this season and played the minimum against NCAA Division III Covenant (Ga.) in 9-0 and 9-1 victories, both in five innings of action.
Twenty-first-ranked Reinhardt is now 4-0 to start 2021.
"We have a few things we will need to be better in tomorrow, but overall, I'm pleased with the outing today," head coach Jade Geuther said. "We made improvements on things we were poor at on opening day, and we made some adjustments to the scout early today on the offensive side and the team immediately responded. It will be a quick turnaround tomorrow, but we are excited to test ourselves with a top 10 opponent this early in the season."
Game 1: W, 9-0 (Five innings)
- The hometown team only needed one frame – the third – to come across home plate nine times compliments of seven combined hits.
- Freshman Jill Martinet got the scoring started with a 2-RBI double, and then Kyrstyn Fisher followed with another 2-RBI double as well.
- With the score, 4-0, Autumn Bible singled to bring in two more teammates before Lauren Parker cleared the bases with a 3-run blast.
- Reagen Radke was dominant once again with a complete-game one-hitter with 10 Ks.
- The Eagles outhit the Scots, 10-1, with their only knock coming in the bottom of the third.
Game 2: W, 9-1 (Five innings)
- Reinhardt started quickly in game two after Emma Adams tripled to right-center for a 1-0 advantage in the opening at-bat for the Eagles. Covenant would then tie the score in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to center.
- Lauren Parker earned the winning RBI on a SAC fly as well in the second frame, and then a five-run third stanza followed with a run-scoring double, single and a 3-RBI triple from Parker.
- Now ahead, 7-1, the hometown club added the finishing touches to the sweep on another Kyrstyn Fisher double and an error.
- Reinhardt had four of its student-athletes collected a pair of hits apiece in the positive outcome.
- Lindsey Shepherd got the win from the circle after going five innings and giving up only four hits and one run.
A Top 25 showdown at No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett takes place tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
