LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett came out of the gate fast and didn't look back in Wednesday's doubleheader with No. 21 Reinhardt, as the Grizzlies took care of business in both games by the count of 10-0 (five innings) and 3-2.
The two defeats dropped the Eagles to 4-2 overall.
"Gwinnett was the better team today and there were several areas we were exposed in that we will improve on moving forward," head coach Jade Geuther said.
The hosts opened their slate of games by scoring in four-consecutive innings to begin the first contest. Georgia Gwinnett was able to net a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a 2-run homer, and then doubled its lead by the end of the third frame following a foul-out that brought a runner home and an RBI-double.
Momentum would continue in the fourth inning in a big way for the Grizzlies after they earned a bases-loaded walk, an RBI-single and a grand slam to right field for the 10-0 advantage.
Megan Huss doubled to right in the top of the third for Reinhardt's only hit.
Game two was a hard-fought battle that started the same as the opening outing – Georgia Gwinnett jumping ahead – this time 1-0 in the first inning. The Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard, and earn a lead, in the top of the second after Natalie Parlato hit a 2-run blast.
The cushion didn't last long, however, as Georgia Gwinnett regained the advantage for good in the bottom of the second on a 2-RBI single.
The hometown squad struggled to get on base the rest of the way – and when it did – left runners stranded. The fourth stanza saw two Eagles left on base, while the sixth inning ended with a 6-4-3 double play.
Five players earned a solo knock apiece in the loss.
Reinhardt will head back to Lawrenceville on Saturday afternoon for two more games – LSU-Alexandria (La.) (Noon) and Georgia Gwinnett again at 2 p.m.
