WALESKA, Ga. – Reinhardt softball was finally back on the field Sunday afternoon and it didn't disappoint, as the 21st-ranked Eagles put together a solid performance against West Virginia Tech in a two-game sweep, 8-4 and 8-0 (six innings).
The hometown team got right back on its feet after tasting defeat in its last outing to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-0 at home at Ken White Softball Field.
"Ten days of not playing is a long time and we will have to play better moving forward, but we did put up good numbers on the day overall – and in the end – the two wins are what matter," head coach Jade Geuther said. "We have a few players seeing it well… Lauren, Jill and Emma were consistently good today, and Alise made a lot of things happen whether that was on the bases or at the plate. We executed some things we don't normally execute, so that's great, and we pitched it well and played good defense."
Game 1 (W, 8-4)
- The Golden Bears opened their season with a double from their first batter, and eventually went ahead, 1-0, but Reagen Radke would settle in nicely by striking out the side (three of her 10 Ks in the win).
- Radke would be rewarded with five runs of support in the bottom of the first after the Eagles got four hits and three errors to go their way to bolt ahead by four runs.
- Highlights in the first at-bat included an Emma Adams RBI-double, a run-scoring hit from Alise Hooks, an error at first base, anther RBI-single (Natalie Parlato) and a dropped fly ball to center.
- Autumn Bible added a sacrifice fly in the second, and then Lauren Parker hit back-to-back inside-the-park homers to right field.
- Parker, Adams and Jill Martinet all registered a pair of hits in the triumph.
Game 2 (W, 8-0)
- The offense stayed quiet in game two until it woke up in the bottom of the fourth frame and didn't stop until a run-rule victory after eight tallies combined in innings four through six.
- Alise Hooks helped break the scoreless tie by getting on base with two outs in the fourth – and later scored – after Natalie Parlato connected on the eventual winning single to left field.
- Four runs on five hits would then follow in the bottom of the fifth after an Emma Adams RBI-double, Kyrstyn Fisher single and a 2-RBI double off the bat of Lauren Parker.
- Back-to-back singles to left brought home two more runners in the sixth, and then Parker (3 RBIs) brought home JJ Trowell for the walk-off run on a base-hit to shortstop.
- Six players had RBIs in the contest, and Ally Andriano went six innings in the circle and surrendered just three hits to go along with five strikeouts.
The Barons of Brewton-Parker (Ga.) visit Waleska for a Tuesday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
