WALESKA, Ga. – The final doubleheader of the regular season at Ken White Softball Field started fast and ended slow after Kentucky Christian was able to split the pair of games with No. 17 Reinhardt on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles are now 34-10 (18-6 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)) after winning the opener, 7-1, before losing the last AAC game at home, 3-2.
"Credit to Kentucky Christian who competed today," head coach Jade Geuther said. "We need to learn from these teams who continue to show up and hand us losses; we have to be better."
Natalie Parlato got the scoring started in game one with an RBI-single in the bottom of the second, and then the hometown team scored three in the third inning – an Emily Loveless 2-run homer and an RBI-knock from Alise Hooks – for a 4-0 lead.
Hooks would bring another teammate home in the fifth (5-0), before the Knights broke through in the top of the sixth with a tally of their own.
Reinhardt would then respond with two more scores in the bottom of the sixth on a Megan Huss double and a Jill Martinet RBI-double.
Loveless was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Three other players registered two hits each.
Reagen Radke got the win after three strikeouts in five innings.
In the nightcap, Kentucky Christian got two runs in the top of the sixth to come from behind and steal the outcome while holding off its host.
The Knights overcame letting their first lead vanish (1-0) after allowing Loveless to tie the score on a single and Kyrstyn Fisher brought in a run on a hit up the middle in the fourth.
From there, however, the Eagles (who had 10 hits) couldn't come through with the clutch at-bat to tie or take the lead once more.
Fisher and Loveless both had two hits in the defeat.
With the home slate in the books, next up is a trip to Lawrenceville to take on No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett in a pair of games beginning at 4 p.m. on April 20.
