Eagles Split Series with Point University
David Finney
Waleska, GA - The Eagles welcomed Point University Skyhawks in for a midweek doubleheader where the teams split with the scores of 4-3 Eagles in game one and 3-4 in game two that went to Point in extra innings. Both games were extremely tight the whole way through with both pitching staffs doing a great job keeping their teams in games. Both had chances to open up the scoring in the games at various times, but the pitching would then shut down the threat.
In game one, Bella Krauth would get the start for the Eagles and she had a great game going the complete seven innings. She would have 3 strikeouts and hold the Skyhawks to just 6 hits in the game. Out of the three runs scored, only one was an earned run. The runs scored in the first and fifth innings for Point were both on errors which should have been the final outs of the innings. Krauth would get the win in this game which puts her at nine wins on the season.
Most of the Eagles' runs would come in the bottom of the first when Jill Martinet hit a long ball over the right-field fence scoring three runs. Alexis Griffith and Alexis Teems were on base from getting singles previously. The next and final run would come in the third when Emily Loveless hit a solo shot to put the Eagles up 4-1 going into the fourth. The Eagles would not score anymore for the remainder of the game, however, they were able to hold onto the 4-3 win with solid defense and great pitching from Krauth.
Alexis Teems would go 2 for 3 in game one and had two stolen bases to lead the Eagles.
In game two, it would take ten innings to decide the final. Ally Andriano got the start in this one striking out five and allowing 8 hits in the ten innings. She found herself in a few jams in the game but was able to pitch her way out of the trouble keeping the Skyhawks off the board. Point was able to score one run in the first and one more run in the fifth. She was able to keep Point off the board for seven of the ten total innings. The Eagles would come up just short in this game losing 3-4 in the extra innings. Andriano would have to take the loss in this game even though she pitched a great game.
In the first seven innings, the Eagles' offense would come all in the second inning. Kaylin Jinks scored after reaching first on an error and moving to second. Lauren Parker would get Jinks home on a single to right field. Parker would eventually get home on a sac fly by Ansley Evans getting the score to 2-1 Eagles after two innings. The Eagles would not score another run until the tenth inning when Alexis Teems singled which scored Alexis Griffith. Griffith was placed on second to start the inning from the International Softball "Runner on Second" rule for extra innings play. After scoring the run, Reinhardt actually was able to load the bases to possibly tie or win the game with a good hit, however, the final out ended on a pop-up and the Eagles would have to take the loss in the second game 3-4.
Hannah Kate Singleton and Alexis Teems would lead the Eagles in hitting for game two. Singleton went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored and Teems went 3 for 5 with a run scored.
The Eagles will need to regroup quickly from the second game loss as they have a busy schedule coming up. Brenau is visiting on Thursday for a doubleheader at 3 pm and 5 pm and then Reinhardt will have a busy week next week. The Eagles will be on the road Monday at Johnson (TN), back home on Tuesday versus Columbia (SC), back on the road for a game with Coastal Georgia, and then wrap up the regular season with another road game at CIU.
