Waleska, GA - Eagles Women's Lacrosse were back in action on Friday evening hosting NCAA Division III, Birmingham Southern. They are coming off a win over Point University the previous Friday night where they held the Skyhawks scoreless and put up an amazing 27 goals. Birmingham Southern was going to be a tougher opponent so the Eagles had to be on their game to hold off the transition attack of the Panthers.
The game would start with what appeared to be another runaway scoring barrage by the Eagles, however, Birmingham Southern would hold strong. Reinhardt would get the first four goals of the game, but the Panthers answered back with a goal of their own around the 8:30 mark in the first quarter. Southern would keep the goal-scoring close in the first quarter with the quarter ending 8-5 in favor of the Eagles. Jillian Mello would lead the way with 3 goals in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Reinhardt would start to show their dominance as they would outscore the Panthers 10-2 in the quarter and an overall 18 to 7 lead at the halftime break. Morgan McGhee would lead the Eagles in scoring during the second quarter and she would have several assists in both the first and second quarters. In addition to McGhee's goals, Alyssa Klinger and Shelby O'Neil would have a few goals as well in the quarter to help create the big lead.
At the start of the third, the Eagles just needed to keep their pace from the first half so they could walk off Ken White Field with another big win. The scoring would slow for both teams in the second half, however, Reinhardt was able to score seven goals in the second half and hold Southern to just two goals. The two goals for the Panthers would come in the third as the Eagles were able to hold them scoreless in the fourth quarter. The final would be 25-9 for the Eagles as they continue their winning ways.
Morgan McGhee would lead the way in the second half scoring three goals in the third quarter. She would have 7 goals on 8 shots for the game to go along with 5 assists. Shelby O'Neil would end up with 6 goals, Jillian Mello had 4 goals, and Alyssa Klinger had 3 goals for the night. Mia Griswold would have 21 ground balls in the game and also score 2 goals.
It was another outstanding performance by the Eagles as they took care of business early and put the team away in the first half. Reinhardt will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Marietta, GA to take on Life University which should be a great test for the Eagles. The next home game for the Eagles will be Monday, March 7th when they take on Sienna Heights.
