Eagle Offense Explodes to Bury Point at Home

WALESKA, Ga. – Adrien Merrilles scored three times and Brianna Smotherman twice as the Reinhardt offense helped the Eagles cruise to another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory in the home conference opener Wednesday night over Point (Ga.), 6-0.
 
The hometown team is back above .500 at 4-3 and improved to 2-0 inside league play, and in that pair of contests, Reinhardt has outscored its opponents, 10-0.

"I'm very proud of our team," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "We improve a little bit each game, and I thought our ball movement created a lot of great, goal-scoring opportunities and we did a solid job of finishing them. What excites me the most is we are far from reaching our potential – our best soccer is ahead of us."
 
Ball possession was the name of the game on this night for the Eagles, as they controlled the clock and outshot the Skyhawks, 30-2, including 15 shots on-goal.
 
Smotherman had bookend goals at 4:02 and 72:07, while Merrilles had a trio of makes, including back-to-back netted attempts in the 13^th and 19^th minute. Adriana Garcia would also get on the scoresheet with the fourth-and-final goal of the first half at 31:13.
 
Garcia also collected two assists in the shutout.
 
Additionally, Merrilles totaled 11 shots and Summer Montgomery had six.
 
Caroline Johnson got the win and made one save in the opening period before giving way to Lally Jasso at the break.
 
Reinhardt looks to make it three-consecutive wins on Saturday night when the Buffaloes stampede into Ken White Field at University Stadium in a 7:15 p.m. AAC battle.
