WALESKA, Ga. – Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) women's soccer is a battle each time out.
That statement rang true again tonight as the Eagles and Milligan (Tenn.) Buffaloes fought to a draw Saturday evening in AAC action at Ken White Field at University Stadium, 1-1, in two overtimes. Reinhardt (4-3-1, 2-0-1 AAC) was able to tie the score compliments of Adrien Merrilles in the 76th minute before both offenses went scoreless the rest of the way.
"I think we learned a tough, but valuable lesson tonight that every conference game is challenging," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "Milligan came out very aggressive and energetic, and we did not match that until Milligan scored. Once they did, I thought we responded very well. We showed a lot of character and worked incredibly hard to score the equalizer."
Milligan broke the scoreless tie in the second half on a free kick that sailed over the outstretched arm of the Eagles' Caroline Johnson at 59:22. From there, Reinhardt seemed to step up the urgency to get the offense moving in the right direction. Multiple shot attempts came close before Merrilles was able to tie the match.
Neither team would find another tally the rest of the way – including two extra periods of 10 minutes each – where each club combined for three shots in the overtimes. In total, the Buffaloes held a slight advantage in shots at 17-14, with half of the Eagles' total coming from Adriana Garcia.
Johnson recorded 12 saves in 110 minutes in the net.
The homestand concludes on Sept. 25 against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan in a mid-week afternoon affair at 4:30 p.m.
