DAYTON, Tenn. – A pair of goals in just over five minutes sent Reinhardt on the right track to victory over the Lions of Bryan (Tenn.), as the Eagles cruised the rest of the second half to a 2-0 road win.
The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) triumph is the second-consecutive success on the field for the hometown team, who improved to 7-5-1 and 5-2-1 in the AAC.
"I'm really proud of our team's performance today as Bryan is a very difficult place to play," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "We dominated the game with accurate passing and intelligent decisions; a sign of our patience was both goals coming from defenders stepping into the attack. I'm excited to see us build off this game."
The scoreboard was quiet most of the first half until Mary Kate Williamson broke the scoreless tie with 4:53 left before halftime. Reinhardt kept the momentum rolling into the second period with more fireworks just 22 seconds into the half as Kira Council got away from the defense and found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead after a pass from Adrien Merrilles.
Shot attempts were well on the side of the visitors, 19-5, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on-goal.
Communication was at a whole new level for the Eagles on this day, as they smothered the Lions on defense and were precise in their offensive attack.
Nine players notched an attempt in the win, with Merrilles out front with seven of her own.
Caroline Johnson went 90 minutes and made three saves.
The club looks to continue its winning ways – again on the road – this time against Montreat (N.C.) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
