MONTREAT, N.C. – Reinhardt earned its third-consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon following a 3-0 blanking on the road at Montreat (N.C.) after a trio of goals in the second half.
It's also the third triumph in-a-row – and fourth in five matches – where the opposition failed to get on the scoreboard.
The Eagles (8-5-1, 6-2-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) were dominant in shot attempts with a 21-5 advantage, including 13 shots on-goal.
"Our team did a great job adjusting and learning at halftime," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "After a scoreless first half, we increased our pressure and made better decisions when we had the ball. All three goals were created by excellent passing. Our team defending continues to make it difficult for opposing teams."
The hometown squad broke into the scorebook in the 51st minute following a score from Brianna Smotherman. Nearly 28 minutes later, Adrien Merrilles – who assisted on the game's opening tally – notched a goal of her own off a nice find by Summer Montgomery.
The trend of assisting players also getting a netted shot would continue at 84:29, as Montgomery capped off the tallies with the third-and-final goal.
Merrilles had a team-high 10 shots (half-dozen on-goal).
Caroline Johnson made three saves in 90 minutes as her teammates made life relatively easy with smothering defense all match.
The three-match road trip ends on Oct. 16 at Brenau (Ga.) in a 7 p.m. matchup.
