Eagles Complete Perfect Road Trip at Brenau
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Two first-half goals by Adrien Merrilles (18:30 and 34:35), combined with hard-nosed defense, proved-to-be the winning formula for Reinhardt on the road Wednesday evening at Brenau (Ga.), 2-0.
The Eagles finished their road trip a perfect 3-0, improving to 9-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference – including shutting out their last four opponents.
"Our team played very well tonight," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "At Brenau is always a very difficult game. I thought we defended very well as a team. Our attack created many great opportunities. I am very excited to continue to build towards the conference tournament."
The hometown team's attack put up 12 total shots – nine on-goal – with eight of the tries coming in the first 45 minutes. The Golden Tigers slowed the Reinhardt offense a touch in the second half while finding more opportunities for itself, but couldn't come through with a netted shot in 13 tries.
Merrilles and Adriana Garcia each put up four attempts.
Kira Council had the contest's lone assist in the 19th minute.
Caroline Johnson picked up another victory in-net with seven saves in 90 minutes of action.
Reinhardt comes back home to Waleska on Saturday afternoon looking to notch five-straight victories when it welcomes AAC newcomer Kentucky Christian to town for a 1 p.m. get-together.
