BLUEFIELD, Va. – Outstanding offense and smothering defense continues to be the recipe for success for women's soccer, as the Eagles used three first-half goals to run away from the Rams of Bluefield (Va.), 5-0, on the road Saturday afternoon.
Adrien Merrilles hooked up with Summer Montgomery twice in less than two minutes halfway through the opening half to take a 2-0 lead over the Rams, and Adriana Garcia then made it 3-0 at the 38:37 mark as Reinhardt (12-5-1, 10-2-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) flew to victory the rest of the way to close the schedule on a positive note – and another shutout.
"Happy to finish the regular season with a pretty good winning and shutout streak," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "Our team played very well, and it was nice to see our two senior strikers each get two goals today in their last regular season game."
The second half offensively belonged to the hometown club and Merrilles, who was able to find the back of the net twice in almost three minutes to blow the game wide open.
The shot chart was completely in favor of the Eagles, 41-4, as they put constant pressure on the Rams' defense.
Caroline Johnson and Lally Jasso each made two stops in the win.
Merrilles accumulated an astounding 15 attempts.
