BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Eagles got off to a slow start and couldn't recover on Saturday as women's volleyball went 0-2 on the final day of the Vette City Classic.
Reinhardt (0-4) fought hard against the Saints of Thomas More (Ky.) in a straight-set defeat (21-25, 21-25, 14-25) before dropping its final get-together in Bowling Green, Ky., against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) following a Blue Raider comeback in the third stanza, 9-25, 14-25, 24-26.
"To be honest, this weekend did not go as expected," head coach Brian Goodhind said. "I think we as a team learned a lot about ourselves and we plan on getting to work immediately on the things we need to fix.
As always, win or lose, all the Honor and Glory go to God."
Reinhardt vs. Thomas More (Ky.) (L, 3-0)
- Ball striking continued to plague the Eagles in the third matchup inside Ephram White Gym on Saturday afternoon, as they combined to hit just .065 against the Saints.
- Seventeen errors and just 24 kills (eight by Kaitlyn Rieke) wasn't a formula for the team's success in finding its first win of the season.
- A bright spot for Reinhardt was Taylor Sawdy, who helped get the offense in the right position with 13 assists. She also added five digs.
- For the second-consecutive day, Holly Heath was all over the floor on defense with a squad-best 20 digs.
- The club accounted for six assisted blocks and one solo rejection (Jacoby Sims) as well.
Reinhardt vs. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (L, 3-0)
- The offense got a touch better for the hometown squad in the nightcap, but it was the Blue Raiders who were on a whole other level with a .380 hitting percentage in the sweep – .519 in the opening game.
- Kaitlyn Rieke continued her strong effort with another seven scores (.357), tying her for the team lead in kills with Abbey Tucker (.385).
- The Eagles, down 2-0, came out swinging in the third stanza and held multiple six-point leads. It didn't last, however, as Lindsey Wilson fought back to the very end and overcame a 24-21 deficit to end the match on a 5-0 run.
- Taylor Sawdy again helped the offensive flow with 13 assists – to go along with seven digs on defense. Ashtyn O'Shea also had seven dimes while Holly Heath chipped in six defensive receptions and three assists.
- Sawdy also had a pair of aces in the loss.
The team heads back to the practice court to prepare for the conference opener at Point (Ga.) on Sept. 9.
First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
