BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Bulldogs of Union (Ky.) were able to take advantage of a poor offensive showing from Reinhardt on the volleyball court Friday night to sweep the Eagles, 21-25, 22-25, 19-25, and hand the hometown squad its third-consecutive loss.
Reinhardt (12-9, 9-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference) couldn't overcome its own mistakes in this conference matchup, as it accumulated 29 attack errors to just 31 kills overall (.014 hitting percentage).
"Tough loss tonight and all the credit to Union, they played well," head coach Brian Goodhind said. At the end of the day, nothing changes in the conference as they are still a game behind us with five losses. Hopefully our girls can fix a few things and win a big conference match tomorrow.
We went 0-1 tonight and we hope to go 1-0 tomorrow. In defeat, I want to give praise to God. All the honor and glory goes to Him."
Shelby Glawson had the best day on the scoring front with a .333 hitting percentage and nine kills. Close behind her was Abby Infante with seven scores and Katherine Perrin had five as well.
The team, however, did earn assists on 29 of its 31 kills, with Taylor Sawdy grabbing the share of dimes with 17. Sawdy nearly had another double-double with eight digs in the loss.
Holly Heath was out-front in defensive receptions with 29, while Sarah Sweet was also in double figures with 12 digs.
Alma Vazquez-Nunez – who had seven digs and five assists – scratched across the lone pair of aces for the Eagles, who ultimately gave away 10 free points from the serving line and couldn't make up for the difference.
The team now travels to Tennessee for a morning matchup with Johnson and a Saturday afternoon contest against Toccoa Falls (Ga.).
Match times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
